FREE MAKEUP TIPS FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY

Your wedding day is probably going to be the most important day in your life, therefore you want to look and feel your very best. Here are some tips to make you look as gorgeous as a princess.
- It is really important that you follow a beauty regime in the lead up to your big day, in order to get that glowing fresh faced look.
-A skin care plan should begin at least 6 weeks before your wedding day
- Don't get too much sun in the weeks leading up to the big day, this could lead to sunburn or peeling skin
- The look that you choose to go with will depend on personal preference, although the time of the ceremony and whether it is day or night will be a factor to consider. A lighter more natural natural look is better for a day wedding, and a heavier or more dramatic look is best for an evening wedding.
- It is best for your makeup to be a little more dramatic than your everyday makeup as this can make you look pale and washed out in your photos.
- When choosing your foundation, it is best to go with yellow undertones, as this works best with photography
- Use a light translucent powder to prevent any unwanted shine
- Bronzing powder can be used to warm your skin tone and give a natural glow
- You should use soft and natural makeup on your eyes, with no heavy dark lines
- Use a lip liner the same colour as your lipstick and avoid a dark lip line
- Ask your mum or one of your bridesmaids to carry a powder compact, tissues and lipsticks for touch ups during the day.

Enjoy every moment of it all, the lead and the big day

THE PERFECT MAKEUP
“Dress shabbily, they notice the dress. Dress impeccably, they notice you” Coco Chanel
People should notice you when you walk into a room, not your makeup. If it is your makeup that they notice, then you look shabby. If it is you that they notice, then you look impeccable. Makeup should be used to draw attention to your best features, and away from your less flattering ones.
FOUNDATION
Choosing foundation:
Just as an artist primes its canvas with a base, so too should a makeup artist, with enough coverage to conceal blemishes, and provide a smooth surface with which to work. Foundation should provide sufficient coverage to suit your needs, but still remain natural looking. It should perfectly match your skin tone, as this can make the difference between having a natural, flawless finish and looking as if you are wearing a mask.
Foundations come on a variety of forms:
Liquid foundations- these usually offer a sheer coverage and provide a natural look. This type is easy to apply and is available in water based and oil based formulas. It is generally suitable for normal, oily, or combination skin types.
Cream foundations- these are usually available in compacts or sticks, and are great for dry skin, and those that require more coverage. It is of heavier and thicker consistency, but can be made more sheer by applying with a damp sponge.
Tinted moisturizer- this is a moisturizer with a little colour added to it. It is the sheerest of all foundations and is great to use in the warmer weather, if you don’t feel like wearing anything heavy. It will even out your skin tone while providing minimal coverage.
Crème to powder- this formula is quick and simple. It has a creamy texture that dries to a powder finish, so doesn’t usually require an application of powder to ensure it is set. These formulas are good for oily skin, because the powder relieves the skin of excess shine.
Mineral powder- this is a loose powder that adheres to the skin, providing medium to full coverage. It has vitamins and minerals that help to treat the skin. It is simple to apply with a brush or sponge.
Finding the right shade of foundation:
Step1- select your skin type
Step 2- select your foundation type
Step 3- select foundation shade. Most Caucasian, African and all Asian and Latin women have yellow based skin, therefore need a yellow based foundation. Test foundation on your jaw line, in natural light, choose the shade that best matches the natural colour of your neck.
Applying foundation:
Cleanse and apply toner
Moisturize
Apply foundation with a cosmetic sponge for more control and a smoother application. Blend evenly until you create a smooth flawless finish. Good blending is the key. Blend under the jawline, into the hairline and ear lobes, the corners of your nose, your mouth, and over and under your eyes. Lightly powder with a translucent powder to set your foundation. If you would like it more sheer, dampen your sponge first
CONCEALER
Concealer can be used to cover blemishes, dark spots, muddy areas, marks, veins, freckles, or under eye circles. Concealer should be one shade lighter than your foundation.
Applying concealer with a small fine tipped brush for an accurate application. Once again, blending is the key.
POWDER
Available either in compact or loose form, powder is an essential step in your makeup routine. Loose powder helps to set you foundation, and compact is good for touch ups and to take away shine. Loose translucent powder is great to use as it doesn’t add any colour to your foundation. For compact powders it is best to use powders with yellow undertones, and ones that match your foundation exactly.
EYES
Eye shadow- this is where you can be creative, without having to follow too many rigid rules. The only simple rule to follow is; light colours highlight and dark colours recede or make things appear smaller.
Choosing colour- choose colours that will enhance your eyes. It is best to choose a colour that is opposite to your own eye colour. For Example, if your natural eye colour is blue, then warm shades of brown, tawny, or golden shades would suit you most. If your eye colour is brown, then you are open to a variety of colours. Any colour looks great around brown eyes.
Applying eye shadow- sweep the lightest shade over your entire eye area, from the lash line to the brow, this will be your base colour. Now apply a medium shade on your lower lid. Now a third colour can be added. Using a dark colour creates depth. Apply this colour to the outer corner of the eye, you can also apply it to the lash line, then bring it up through the crease line and the brow bone. Blend as well as you can, you shouldn’t see any distinct lines, you should have attention drawn to your eye, not to the makeup. How you apply this contour colour, will help make your eye look bigger or smaller.
EYELINER
Eyeliners come in a variety of forms; liquid, pencil, cake and gel. The way that you apply eyeliner will depend heavily n the look you are after. The more dramatic you want to be, the heavier the liner will be when applied. You should generally use neutral shades such as taupe, brown or black. Coloured eyeliners can make your eyes ‘pop’ by drawing attention to your colour, but they should generally be saved for times when you want to make a dramatic statement.
MASCARA
Mascara is one of the most effective makeup tools. It is great for opening up the eyes as it emphasize the lashes. Make sure you lashes are covered from root to tip. Combing your lashes after the application, will help to prevent clumping.
EYEBROWS
The shape of your eyebrows, as all good makeup artists will tell you, can make or break your face, they are a frame to your face. Brush you brows with a brush, then measure by holding a pencil, or the brush vertically along the outer corner of you nostrils to the inner part of your brow. If your brow line overlaps onto the bridge, the remove the excess hair. If the brow is shorter, then fill in with a pencil, the same colour as your natural hair. Where the brow ends can be found by holding the pencil from the outer corner of your nostril across the corner of the eye to the outer brow. Again, fill it in if it needs to be extended.
CHEEKS
Blush- this adds warmth or colour to the face, and can brighten it or make it glow.. It is best to find a blush that is natural or neutral, a colour that would be the natural colour of your cheeks should you blush naturally. Blush is available in powder or cream form. And comes in a wide variety of tones. For ivory or light beige skin tones, soft pink undertones would be the best choice for blush. Peach undertones are good for mature skin as it can warm and enhance the skin. Women with olive skin tones should use blush with warm undertones like tawny or coppery tones. Don’t be too generous in your application. Sweep the blush downward from the ear to midcheek, ending at the apple of your cheek.
LIPS
Lipsticks are by far the most popular makeup tool. They comes in tubes, pots, pencils,, with different varieties emerging daily. Although colour choice is personal preference, we are influenced by current trends. To create the perfect lips, you should begin by applying a neutral coloured lip liner following your natural lipline. Use a lip brush and fill in with lip colour, blending so there are no harsh lines. Full lips work best with dark colours, where as lighter shades are best for thin lips to make them appear fuller. Warmer, colourful lipsticks always add youth. Lip gloss emphasizes lips and make them appear fuller.
Have fun!!!
